BPM - Half Full or Half Empty?

An artilce on EAIJournal about BPM. It talks about how Software Development has progressed from Monolithic applications to Client/Server, 3 tier(Client/Business Logic/Model) and now getting evolved into 4 tier(Cleint/{Process Logic / Business Logic }/Model).

The article discusses about the advantages and pit falls of the new Process Logic layer. Talks about the concept of Colloborative BPM.

--> Work Flow represents the oldest category and is defined by the structured orchestration of tasks or documents between people.
--> EAI can be viewed as the structured orchestration of actions or data
between systems.
--> BPM represents the combination of workflow and EAI cataegoreis

The article discusses CBPM as the solution. CBPM suits processes that are highly non-liner processes and requires human judgement.

BPM is an integral part of what constitues SOA (Service oriented Architecture). Its evolving along with other parts of it. I think it will be early to make judegemnts on this, as what is good and bad about it. Give it some time to mature and than we can disect this.
Having said that it does raise some interesting aspects at an early stage of SOA adoption.

And CBPM looks interesting... something to explore.. i presume.
