January 06, 2004Historial Australia Vs India - Steve Waugh RetiresIndians hold heads high; Waugh bids adieu - The Times of India India might have retained the Gavaskar-Border Trophy after the draw at Sydney but Australia stole the show on the final day by taking the fight to the Indian camp.
The Australian skipper Steve Waugh signed off his Test career with a dogged 80 with the Aussies, chasing 443 to win, finishing with 357/6. Simon Katich who slammed his maiden Test century in the first innings was undefeated on 77 from just 96 deliveries. For India, the series has been one of their best ever overseas. After the rather pathetic performance against the Kiwis in their own backyard, not much was expected from the Indians on their tour Down Under.
But Ganguly and his men answered their critics in the best way possible by playing excellent cricket and catching the awesome Aussies on the backfoot. Comments
