Prajwala - A home/school for Molested Children

PRAJWALA is a hyderabad based NGO from Andhra Pradesh, started by started and managed by Suneetha a 31 yr old lady. She is providing councelling/shelter for girls/children who are raped/molested and trying to provide them a new life and hope.

Prajwala is started in a house donated by prostitutes in hyderabad with a hope for a better future for their kids. Now it has 6 schools in hyderabad and 16 schools across Andhra Pradesh helping arround 3000 unfortunate kids to get a better education. Every year arround 400 students graduated from this schools go for higher education. Prajwala also runs home for girl childs who are raped and needs shelter and councelling.

Suneeta has dedicated her life to the cause from a very early state. When she was 16yrs old she survived a rape attempt by 8 people. Even though she escaped from it, she had to carry the stigma with her for a long time and that prompted her to work for the cause. She did her bachelors in Environmental Science which helped her to work with social workers in an intimate way, then did her master from Mangalore university in Psychiatry of Social Work and then did phd in studying prostitution in Mumbai. She published a paper 'Psychological Status of Prostitutes'.

Hello,

I represent The Emancipation Network, a non-profit group based in Massachusetts U.S.A. Our mission is to fight the trafficking of young girls through programs that promote self-sufficiency. We will be in Hyderabad in March and are hoping to meet with Dr. Suneeta to see how our organization might be of benefit. I have not been able to reach her through e-mail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would just like to thank you for doing what you do to help young girls survive the horror that they have endured for so long. You give them a way out and a new beginning. I wish one day that I can be able to help young girls to become survivors and not victims for the rest of their lives. You are an insperation for many suvivors and you will truley be blessed.

How can we women - from a global or international standpoint, help in supporting this endeavor to keep our threatened children in a safe and supportive environment? How can we help support Prajwala - financially or by other means - to the best of our abilities?

I, for one - as a mother and a grandmother - am ready to do my part!

Dr Krishnan,
I am deeply impressed by what I have heard about your organization. Is there a way for me to learn more about your organization and support you in your work?
