A new controversy has erupted in India over a book penned by statesman Jawaharlal Nehru, Discovery of India, some sixty years ago. The BJP is upset at what they say is a poor portrayal of the 17th century warrior Shivaji. The BJP, you may recall, was also upset over John Layne's book on the same subject a few months ago, which resulted in OUP withdrawing the book from the Indian market. I bought this book in Jackson Heights ( NY ) this past December but haven't had the opportunity to read it, but allow me to say the BJP's arguments outrageous. This book was first published in 1946, why are they complaining about this just now?
