16 in Bilkis case sent to judicial custody

Sixteen of the total 20 accused in the Bilkis Bano gangrape-cum-massacre of post-Godhra riots, which claimed lives of 14 people, were sent to judicial custody till May 18 by a local court here today.

The two policemen, who had surrendered before the court yesterday taking the total number of those in custody to 18, have already been sent to judicial custody till May 18.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (Ahmedabad rural) S M Padhya sent the 16 accused to judicial custody after they were produced before the court today.

The sixteen, include a doctor couple, four policemen and two BJP leaders from Dahod.
