News about Indian BPOs, now on a CD

Source: IT Professionals Association of America - News about Indian BPOs, now on a CD

Launching the BPO Industry in India CD Rom on May 6, Raman Roy, CMD of Spectramind, said, “This BPO product takes a balanced view of the BPO industry and focuses on strategic issues as much as on operational ones. It provides insights into the problems facing the industry and potential solutions to the same. More importantly, it brings out the need for the cooperation and partnership from the government, the associations and the industry to work together in a seamless manner for India realising the potential of the BPO industry.”

The Nasscom-Mckinsey report of 1999 raised the possibility of huge BPO exports, then called IT-enabled Services (ITES). Tentative estimates from Nasscom indicate that the Indian BPO industry is growing at a pace exceeding 60%. BPO industry revenues have grown from around $565m in 1999-2000, to almost $2,400m in ’02-03, with estimates for ’03-04 being around $3,600m. IDC projects it to grow to $12bn by ’06, with the employment potential of almost a million.

Presently the BPO industry is into diverse areas — call centres and back office operations such as finance and accounts, human resources, payment services, administration, knowledge-based activities and health care. However, it is heavily skewed towards call centre activities which account for more than 60% of revenues and employment.

Our present study points to the upcoming segments that do offer an opportunity for growth, such as animation, market research, healthcare, engineering, biotech research, legal arena and analysis. Though the CD Rom is being launched now, the book has already been selling for the past few weeks. The book has been written by interviewing the top management at various BPOs, to get their insights into strategies, the problems faced and their solutions. The book also contains information on revenues, areas of operation, ownership and funding details and recruitment and training issues, as well as infrastructural arrangements.

I don't know what book they are talking about. I tried to serach on Amazon for BPO Industry In India and got this result http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-2721634-0306562.Not sure which book among these.
