Bestbuy Crazy Customer Service Options

Today I tried to call Bestbuy customer service number for paying my bills and it went like this.

Bestbuy: Thanks for calling Bestbuy. Please enter last four digits of SSN for account verification.
Ram: Enters last 4 digits of SSN
Bestbuy: We did not recognize that, please enter last four digits of SSN.
Ram: Enter last 4 digits of SSN and this time it magically accepts it. (Actually this process happened every time I called the number, they want me to enter the last 4 digits twice, they could just tell, please enter it again, instead of telling we did not recognize it, it basically made me feel that I am dumb ass who does know how to enter the digits.)
Bestbuy:......takes account info, blabla and finally I reached customer service representative.... and then it goes this way
CSRep: Can you verify your name?
Ram: Ramdhan Kotamaraja
CSRep: Can you verify your SSN?
Ram: What???????? , nobody asks for complete SSN, its usually last 4 digits?
CSRep: This is Bestbuy policy Mr. Kotamaraja.
.........ok, i will stop it here and do the rest of ranting..............

They r kidding me, I need to give my SSN over telephone everytime I call Bestbuy. I just couldn't believe it. Everywhere in books, talkshows, articles etc. they keep advising to avoid giving SSN as much as possible and here we go, everytime I call Bestbuy, I need to give them my SSN. Usual prectice is that, you verify last four digits of SSN, thats it.

Now I am wondering, whether I would call them again, well I will have call them for sure, as I have some billing issues going on, huh!
