Congress Landslide Victory In Andhra Pradesh

AP polls: Naidu on the way out as Cong races ahead - Sify.com

Ending a decade long political drought, a resurgent Congress, in alliance with Telangana Rashtra Samithi, appeared set for a comfortable victory in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.

The Opposition combine's candidates are leading in about 215 seats in the 294-member Assembly, while the ruling TDP managed to gain an edge in 64 constituencies.

I am constantly watching the poll results and TDP, well Chandra Babu Naidu(won Personally with a majority 64000), is loosing in A.P. TDP is loosing in the most unexpected places which are treated as TDP fortresses, while congress candidates are winning left and right, even in the most unexpected places. In telugu there is a saying 'Bandlu Vodalu Avutayi, Vodalu Bandlu Avutayi - Bullock Carts will become Ships and Ships will become Bullok Carts', exactly that is happenning. The A.P comman man is clearly disgruntled with Naidu's governance and are up against Naidu's govt. and did silent revolution as told by would be chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

Is this just a common urge to dislodge the ruling govt. as a rule of thumb, I don't think so. When I visited India I heard various voices and some of them are here, they may not tell the complete story, but might give an idea.

  • Poor/Common people were completely neglected and none of the the grand schemes that were designed are done with common people in view.
  • Rich (read Kamma,Choudary,Naidu) are becoming big fat rich guys and poor becoming poor. If its Reddys, they eat a lot and give some to others, but Kammas eat everything and give nothing to others.
  • People committed suicides b'cos of no proper crops due to three years draught, and govt. completely neglected them.
  • No money is invested in agriculture and irrigation development, this is what a common man needs and most of the population in India is dependent on agriculture and related industry.
  • Increased unemployment with an increased churn of thousands and thousands of engineering/medical/other graduates., but almost no employment opportunities created.

And according to my friend, Andand Yadav, who is sitting beside me who is very actively involved in politics, some of the reasons are:

  • Internal TDP fights and TDP rebels created a huge loss, a swing of a couple of thousand votes changes the scenario.
  • TDP Cadre did not work with dedication as they already enjoyed power for almost 9 years, while congress cadre fought a do or die battle.
  • Congress formed alliances with TRS and CPI and that helped a lot.
  • There is a general wide spread resentment towards govt. as the money that is spent on welfare programs went into few pockets and never reached poor.
  • Three years of drought caused a wide spread feel-bad factor .
  • Almost no govt. recruitments are done and so unemployed graduates are angry.
  • Employees worked against govt. as Naidu is very pushy and making them work a lot. Employees exercise a lot of influence in polling booths.

Can you think of any more reasons ? Is this election going to have an impact on the trend and momentum that is already set in the economy of the country? What kind of impact?

Election Results: http://164.100.51.209:8080/assembly_delay_AP/default.html

TDP - 47 (Completely Humiliating)
BJP - 2 (Well, I suspect any central govt. formation)

INC - 185 (Expecting to sweep lok sabha seats)
TRS - 26 (Is Telangana state going to be a reality)
CPM - 9
CPI - 6

TDP and BJP got 39.69% vote share while INC and its allies got 48.37% vote share. This clearly depicts that about 4% of vote swing might have different results. This also shows the infighting in TDP and lethargic attitude of its cadre might have adversely affected TDP's chances.

Whatever the case, the verdict is out there, TDP got a humiliating verdict while congress got thumpict majority from AP voters.

Now, waiting for the drama to unfold about Congress govt. and how TRS is going to fight for Telangana state in AP.

What are the chances of BJP/NDA at centre? Looks like very bleak.

I also find it very ironic that Sonia has won the state that Rajiv lost for the Congress.
Bijli Sadak Pani aside - no other issue mattered, not even that of the foreign origin of the Congress Party leader

Do you think people who are hungry do care, what your skin color is, which country you are from? No, all they care is, whether they are getting food or not, and whether their kids are getting food or not. The Bijli-Sadak-Pani is the main focus and Indira Gandhi ruled country with Garibi Hathao slogan for a long long period of time. But the issue is people did not believe BJP's statements of Bijli-Sadak-Pani, as they have not kept their credibility.

Feel good factor has not trickled down and touched the real ovter. It has only touched something like 5% of the population who are in rich/upper middle class, but sadly these people are not real voters, they don't want to stand in lines and vote. The real voter has actually felt bad.

Still waiting for the Lok Sabha results. Lets see what happens.

The foreign (non)issue was played up so much by the NDA that it often seemed that the NDA in general, and the BJP in particular, was in the opposition and the congress the government. This election like all elections was won or lost on the economy. And not so much macro economic indicators as micro economic reality.
The fact remains that a LPG cylinder which cost Rs. 90 five years ago costs Rs.280 today. It will be very interesting to see the Parliamentary results.

Harini,

Well, its not Sonia who won the election in AP, its YSR who won by emerging as a Natural Charismatic Leader over a period of time and Naidu, who lost the groud by negelecting the common voters of AP. Its completely a state issue, nothing related to AP and in Cenral politics does not paly much role or weild influence in South Indian states.

see, first eliminate a caste difference in politics, think atleast naidu did some for literates if hes not there hyderabad would be just a place of history where hindus were totally overruled by muslims.eliminate caste systems unite hindus....we are not understanding slowly islamic population is gruelling in india.so no fights between naidus, reddys, brahmins etc.......ok?sure if naidu turn back he will do as much he did for hyd for the urban A.P. which YSR wont.

COMING BACK TO FARMERS IGNORED:ARE THE FARMERS NOW NOT IGNORED AND ALSO THE CONGRESS HAD DONE NOTHING UNLESS UNTIL THEY GOT THE SHOCK OF BABU VISITING THE FLOOD AREAS.
IF THE CONGRESS ID REALLY INTERESTED IN DEVELOPMENT THEN WAT ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION OF BUS-STOPS AND ALSO THE MUNICIPLITIES ARE NOT MAINTAINING THE CITY NEAT AS IT WAS EARLIER.NO PROPER PROGRAMMS FOR THE PEOPLE AND NO NEATNESS AT ALL.REQUEST FOR THE GOVT TO IMPROVE THESE THINGS TO FOR A BETTER CITY.AND NOT TO SPOIL IT AND MORE OVER THERE HAVE BEEN LOT OF BRIBERY NAD THEFT IN THE CITY WAT THE GOVT IS DOING.

i think the govt is not at all taking care of the and inspite more interested in their meetings and wasting people money wat TDP had done CONGRESS cant do that much for the people.inspite of fighting the congress stop blaming nad get back to the work of people and also maintain neatness in the city atleast for the sake of tourist coming to hyderabad.and also have some good plans for unemplyement and also do something to stop theft and bribery in the city.
