May 15, 2004Anju jumps gold in DohaAnju Bobby George sounded a warning to other Olympics long jump medal aspirants by leaping to a gold-winning distance of 6.82m at the Doha Super Grand Prix athletics meeting in Doha on Friday. According to information received here, the world championship bronze medallist was way ahead of her rivals in the meet. Valentina Gotovska ( Latvia ) won the silver with a distance of 6.70m while Poland 's Malgorzata Trybanska clinched the silver with 6.57 m. Friday's jump was Anju's career-best performance. Her earlier effort of 6.74m was set in 2001. She won the bronze at the Paris World Championship with 6.70m. The Kerala athlete, who is a medal prospect at the Athens games, opened the season with 6.66m at the domestic athletic circuit meet in New Delhi last month.
