I got this mail from Kiran Kumar Jakkaraju, about a chat bhandar in Bangalore, I thought its nice info for chat lovers. I don't know where he got it from.
Street food that’s quite scrumptious
If snacks and chaats are what you love, a visit to Papdiwala near
Ramakrishna Ashram Circle is a must.
BINDU GOPAL RAO
Papdi chaat, Raj kachori, Golgappas, Lachha tokri, Dahi bhallas, ragda
pattice .... the true ‘chaat’ fan can have all this and more at Papdiwala.
Niraj Jhunjhunwala, who gave up a career in software to reconnect with the
family tradition of making sweets, has started this neat self-service
restaurant on Bull Temple Road.
The seating arrangement is done innovatively, overlooking the busy
Ramakrishna Ashram circle. But unmindful of the din, the cooks concentrate
on dishing out plate after plate of chaat, chole bature and pav bhaji.
The unique selling proposition of this place is the fact that the accent is
on purity. Pure ghee is sourced at times from Haryana, masalas from
Rajasthan and other sundry provisions from Delhi.
True to its name, Papdiwala’s forte is chaat and there’s a range of cold and
hot chaats to choose from.
Cold chaats are curd based and the most popular in this category is the Raj
Kachori that is a delicious concoction of curd, kachori and pure spices. In
the hot chaats section, make sure you try the ‘Chilla’ range -- chilla
panner, chilla veg or chilla plain. This is similar to a dosa but is made
from fresh moong dal.
Also available are a number of short eats like grilled sandwiches, samosas,
burgers and pizzas. The South Indian fare includes idli, vada, dosa and
uttapam. This apart you also have a range of soups, tandoor breads, sabjis,
biryani, raita and barbecue foods. Chinese food is also available and you
could try the Papdiwala Chinese Platter that includes Veg Chowmein, Fried
Rice and Manchurian and serves as a meal in itself.
Apart from the Veg Thali and Deluxe Thali, there is a packaged veg. thali
that is a special take-away pack useful during travel or for picnics. This
is neatly packed in a specially made food grade plastic container that has
separate counters and a lid that has holders on the opposite side so that
when you eat you can use it as a base.
There are special Jain chaats as well. Also available on prior order is a
special 100% vegetarian milk cake which is again quite popular.
Apart from the regular fruit juices, you can treat yourself to refreshing
pudina palak, carrot, beetroot, and kaju anar juices that are the in-house
specialties.
A large section of the ground floor is dedicated to sweets and savouries.
The sweets available include milk sweets, ghee sweets and dry fruit sweets.
You could also treat yourself to onion kachori, dhoklas, paneer pakodas and
cutlets. The dhoklas are available in many forms like paneer dhokla,
sandwich dhokla, dry fruit dhokla, fried dhokla and idli dhokla. The
namkeens include kaju mixture, panchratan mixture and the Gujarathi special
bhakarwadi.
The existing facility is being spruced up to include a service wing on the
first floor. Papdiwala is located at Ramakrishna Ashrama Circle, #15, Bull
Temple Road, Basavanagudi, Bangalore-560004. Phone 26606651, 26624151.
