BPOs fuel live-in relationships

Across the BPOscape of the Indian IT milieu , winds of change have been blowing across the country for the last few years. Economic independence, coupled with self-assurance and liberated spending power has effected a change in the social structure as traditional units dissolve and new ones come into shape.

Recent years have witnessed a rise in live-in relationships, especially among urban couples working in BPO units across the country. A concoction of love and convenience gives birth to a live-in relationship as young BPO professionals shed inhibition and traditional notions. The entry of MNCs and the setting up of BPOs in the country has helped redefine the way young minds think and function as social mores are transformed.

Most couples who decide to take the plunge to move in together face hell at home as most families crib about social isolation happening, thanks to erratic work hours. For parents caught in their own value systems and traditions, it takes a while before they can accept such new phenomenon, based on the Western code of life. But most feel helpless to do anything as kids usually rebel or end up walking out of the house.
