July 20, 2004Dalip Giant Singh - Indian WWF dudeIndia's answer to WWF has emerged in the form of Dalip 'Giant' Singh. Singh has exhibited his prowess and now is staking his claim to being the only Indian citizen to pursue this particular wrestling style actively. Dalip started off with athletics and then took up bodybuilding, but it was WWF that captivated him. You could call him a monster of a man. Dalip is a sight to behold, one of the tallest men in wrestling history. He has participated in over 250 tournaments so far in Japan, the United States and in Mexico and won about 200 matches. Life started in Jalandhar when Dalip become a pro wrestler for All Pro Wrestling in the US, making his first appearance in October 2000, teaming up with Tonny Jones against the West Size Playaz 2000. In August 2001, he was brought into New Japan by the Team 2000, Masahiri Chono and had won several tournaments here. Dalip suffered his first loss in a tag match at the Tokyo Dome in January 2002. The 31-year old wrestler says that it was not easy for him to reach where he has today. Source: WWF mania grips 'giant' Punjab cop - Sify.com Comments

For those who don't know who Giant Gonzolas is he was a wrestler who was a legit 7'7 300 pound guy but he couldn't speak a lick of english and is widely considered one of the worse wrestlers in pro wreslting history and Giant Singh is basiclaly the same thing Posted by: LT at May 27, 2005 12:27 AMI don't get all these people saying the wrestling is fake. Sure the wrestlers go through motions to make sure they don't hurt one another, and yes the storylines are all scripted. But every single one of these wrestlers have paid their dues and it's not easy getting to a level of international exposure. These guys 'fight' night in, night out, and though they do help one another in the ring so that they don't kill one another, the moves they go through do STILL hurt a lot. Tell Mick Foley (Mankind in WWE) that wrestling is fake when he fell over twenty feet on to a wrestling ring, or when his ear got caught in a turnbuckle and was ripped off. Yes it is choreographed, but only for the sake of safety. Wrestling is still a painful sport regardless. I don't watch it because all the scripted storylines are too melodramatic, but I respect these guys for the time, effort, and pain they have gone through to get to where they are. If wrestling was fake, I would like to see the average person do what these guys do, whether they are average wrestlers (in comparison to the talent at the international level as opposed to average in your local gym). They don't get paid the money they do at the international level just to be an average person off the street. And he shouldnt be in wwe cuz its all fake and scripted and the person who will become the champ is decideed by the CEO. He should become a wrestler or something. And sukhpal stop with all u need is protein. To much protein is bad for u, and working out for 2-3hrs a day for 5-6 days a week is horrible for your bodies. You need rest for your muscles to grow. If you keep stressing ur muscles, it wont make u big unless u have some time off to be relaxed. How big can u be dhillon, im pretty sure u aint 400pounds or anywhere close. So keep ur tips to urself. U can find lots of info on the net and it will tell you that what u need is only 3-4days a week. OR JUST Take JUICE. Posted by: Amit Gungune at October 1, 2005 02:50 PMDalip Singh,to me, is a new rising star. In whatever field he chooses. I would like to see more of him in movies. He has great physical strength, but his eyes have an intensity that will take him far in the movies.I wish the best to Dalip Singh and hope to meet him some day in the futre. Posted by: Barbara at October 9, 2005 11:16 PMHey guys, I first heard about Dalip Singh back in 1999. That time he had got some position for himself. I met one of his childhood friend in the train. The description he gave was unbelievable. I couldn't resist but went with him to see the giant. He was not big, boy, he was huge. His buddy told me that he was one of many siblings in a poor family. He was a school drop out and started working as a stone breaker. He was hungry all the time so he joined a dhaba as a waiter. He used to eat all the left out food there. Once the Punjab Police chief M S Bhullar saw him and he quickly offered him a peltry job in police. There he got the opportuninity of becoming an athlete. He was a very fast runner, a good gyminast and a good thrower. But finally he took to body building. And thats how he is where he is today. Secret... his close frnd told me his penis is 18" long. Posted by: Avinash at October 10, 2005 09:39 PMI also became aware of Dalip when I saw The Longest Yard, he is truelly amazing. I was first impressed with his size, then I read his bio and gained a huge amount of respect for him as a person. It would be great to see him make it big, joining WWE would be nice, but we'll all have to wait and see what happens. Whatever makes him happy is what's truelly important, right? I truly believe that it takes a great man to pursue the passion from his dream.I support you and your efforts 100%.I think you are great.Keep that agressive look.It really works for you.I am sure you get this all the time...yet should you ever need a friend.I am here. Yours Truly, I have read as much material on this wonderful man and his career. I was most intrigued with his gentle and sweet character on the Longest Yard, which appeared to bring together a great mixture of talent and humor. I would love to opportunity to no more and possibly one day meet this gentle spirit who has in some way intrigued me as well. Tina/Atlanta Posted by: Tina Zaakkaheildevachetia at October 17, 2005 07:35 AMHi Everyone! I'm such a big fan of Mr. Singh. Posted by: d at October 22, 2005 01:55 AMDalip hasn't been signed to wrestle because he killed a guy in the ring in APW. Roland just got sued over it though the accident wasn't all Singh's fault. Posted by: sider at October 22, 2005 04:04 AMDilip Singh is massive, and deserves all he is getting. For all those that say wrestling is fake, I'd like to see you do that day in and day out, on the road most of the year, not being able to see your family much at all. I'd just like to see you do it and make the so-called easy money. There's a reason why there are loads of indy wrestlers who can't get in the WWE, because you need talent. Also, DUsty the person that broke his leg jumping off the turnbuckles was Sid Vicous,l he was facing Scott Steiner that night. :p Posted by: CBM at October 25, 2005 02:45 PMHey,does anyone know, how to get in contact with Dalip Singh? You know address, e-mail, etc... Does anyone know what's he up to now? Posted by: Barbara at October 27, 2005 12:11 AMHey'dudes i do not know about this guy but if he is an Indian i do respect him .But wwe is not fake can a guy stand there jumping from ladders,cages,etc... if you can why didn't you take a job like this where you are paid for ypur blood. I can tell you that in 2011 you will see an Indian face in wwe beating some one in a blood bath match. That time not only the India but whole world will understand what's real wrestling. Posted by: Anubhaw Shukla at November 11, 2005 10:34 AMI am Sahil Mehta and I am related to Dr. Randhir (Dalip's coach). I am related to him because my dad is Dr. Randhir's cousin. Dr. Randhir is probably the best coach in all of India and owns 5-6 gyms only in Punjab. The gyms all begin with Tara (after his dad's name). Dr. Randhir himself was Mr. Universe and made my other 2 uncles Mr. Punjab. One of them was in "Punjab Times". His name is Parvesh Kumar. If you want to contact Dr. Randhir and see Dalip Singh or associate however you like, please email me. Also www.bodybuildingindia.com is the OFFICIAL website of Dr. Randhir and at the very bottom of the page is the address of his gyms' and his email and phone. I live in Australia however when I go to India I see them all the time and workout myself there. The gyms are one of the best you can get. The one at Jalandhar is where Dalip Singh trains. Posted by: Sahil Mehta at November 22, 2005 04:12 AMWWE type wreslting is fake, scripted and based on story line. The acrobatics are real, however very few od the wrestlers have good talent. Mostly they are big, muscular like bodybuilders. Even guys in circus have more talent than them. They don't have a chance against UFC fighters or Olympic wrestlers. Kurt Angle who has joined WWE , was an 1996 olympic gold medalist wrestler. There is no other olympic wrestler in wwe except him. Dalip Singh is a nice person, who started from body buidling, then migrated to Rassling(Pro-wresrtling). He plan to join WWE around april 2006 and has a one year contract with them. His problem is that he does not know ho to speak fluent english, which is very important in WWE. Posted by: solidman at November 22, 2005 06:38 PMif somebody is giving good advice, it should be appreciated. You dont have to be an extremely good player in order to become a good coach. As an example Coach of the greatest olympic wrestler in the world alexander kareline of russia , was not even a national champion. But under his guidance kareline won 3 olympic gold medals,9 world championships,11 europeans championship and one olympic silver medal. He was only defeated once in his career. Proteins are good for body, at least 25% of the food source should be from proteins. it want to bulk up, your protein intake should be 40 percent. Too much protein as said by one of the person is bad. Posted by: solidman at November 22, 2005 06:45 PMI wanna be a pro-wreslter & it's my dream. Although he is acromegalic, he looks impressive...He started bodybulding when in Punjab Police and was one of the main proteges of Tara's Health Care Systems..... In tara's they mentioned his stats as : He was actually stated He is basically from Himachal Pradesh.... In the first days of bodybuilding was 275lbs(125kg) in weight... Went to All Pro Wrestling(California based independent wrestling council) and then to New Japan Pro Wrestling(NJPW) where he was a part of the team of giants with Giant Silva..and was with Japanese Legend Mashiro Chono.. There first they published him as 7'3 and 408 These figures are surely exaggerated . Although he would be a big draw in WWE provided he has good mic skills(in the 'Longest Yard' he didn't seem upto par with the dialogues but looked intimidating in the lockup), but may do great without talking.... Maybe he will work as an enforcer with any heel stable or may be henchman to Mr. McMahon and then gain fan favourability..but all requires good mic skills.... a good way to get gold early is to team him with the giants like Kane, Big Show... He sure has to make impact in the first contract that he gets. he may stay if impresses but will be gone if blows it.... Imagine an Indian holding a WWE Title. That wouldn't sell good in the Us market. Gone were the days when the likes of Iron Sheikh were tolerated. Today it's the era of the green bucks and sure the racist vince won't do anything to displease the American people. I am sure Dalip will just be dragged along as a heel and capitalized until his contract expires.Imagine him being marketed as from the jungles of Punjab. Bull shit, this is the american stereotyped view of India filled with only jungles, tigers, snake charmers etc. still trying to be marketed as they were in Indiana Jones era. Look what happened to Muhammad Hassan, He was a great talent no doubt but the jerk Vince would only utilize him as much the tremors of The Iraq war had it's effect. America doesn't even respect it's own citizens. Daivari and Hassan speaks as fluent an english as any other normal american. But all they are made to speak are jibberish and we have a bunch of zombie crowds chanting "USA USA" for apparently no logical reason at all. Instead of promoting the message of globalization and peace with it's advantage of wide media coverage and huge viewership, WWE is sadly promoting racism where the normal athelete is catgorized as an irish, american, arabic, indian etc. With this scenario going on, we can jsut hope that singh will succeed in winning the hearts of few with his talent and forfeit the dream of he ever becoming a WWE champion. Coz ultimately it's business as usual. Posted by: Vipin at April 18, 2006 05:12 PMI don't think WWE will let Singh make it big within the business. Vince and his pack are the one of the biggest racists ever lived. Push the likes of Paul London, Finlay, Kendrick, even Mizanin. What's this scoundrel murderer doing in the main event. Posted by: Khali means empty at April 19, 2006 02:50 AMRight said Vipin, very right. Posted by: Siddharth at April 19, 2006 07:54 AMUnfortunately, I see Vipin's point...everyone knows Vince is a prick. I just hope that it doesn't go that way. Dalip could dominate if given the opportunity. As far as him killing someone- I don't know if I really belive that, where do you get your information from? Everything else I have read about him describes him as gentle with a wonderful personality. I was extremely excited when I first saw him on WWE because I was waiting for it to happen, but also because I noticed one thing: HE'S GOTTEN BIGGER! No matter what happens, it's going to be interesting. And for the idiots still talking shit about how wrestling is fake...I want to see every one of you try to do what these men and women do for ONE WEEK, and if you don't run home crying to Mommy, then you can talk shit. Posted by: Dusty at April 19, 2006 06:39 PM What your problem everybuddy.he does't kill someone that's accident.as i see everybuddy taling about wrestling .and i want to tell everybuddy that's wrestling is not fake at all. Virpin - Panties in a bunch, ehh? I hope you don't take all satire on its face, that just couldn't be good for your health. Fact is pro wrestling is scripted melodrama. That's what sells. It's a soap opera marketted to guys. So you better believe the characters and backstories are exaggerated to the Nth degree - that's what sells. Your racism concerns are all over the place - is McMahon the root of the problem? The people in bookings? Americans? Pro Wrestling fans? It's real easy to accuse the whole industry of racism, but to do so you have to ignore the positives. Or during Mohammad Hassan's run, and the "idiotic USA USA chants" - were you paying attention to any of the storyline? Do you remember the point of view taken by the announcers, then? That he was free to hold whatever opinion he did, and say what he wanted, but that nobody was forcing him to be a part of the system? Hassan was scripted as an anti-American muslim because it was a cheap way to tug at the audience's passions in light of the terrorism war. But it raised some real issues. How many Indians haven't been harassed due to profiling since 9/11? I don't particularly enjoy having to drop trou when I fly - and the idiotic ramblings Hassan was made to represent at least brought such stories the public attention they deserve. Sure, Hassan was made to play a character that was too over the top in his protestations of unjust profiling, but that storyline at least made people stop and think about how profiling really does occur - and to what extent it's acceptible. Sure, historically a lot of minorities get their breaks playing heels. Iron Sheik when the Iranian Revolution occurred. Nikolai Volkov at the height of the Reagan-era Cold War. But at least that opposing viewpoint was presented to the American fans. Most had the common sense to realize that it was presented in an exaggerated form - just part of the overall "over-the-top-ness" that permeates WWE culture. That's what made it entertaining. But even when Hassan was an "American-hating-villain", every time an announcer or commentator would criticize him it was always with the caveat that people shouldn't believe all Muslims and Middle Easterners thought like Hassan supposedly did. Maybe it's just me, but I thought the tolerance message was very well handled. It's safe to just take explosive, divisive issues and sweep them under the rug. Much like South Park, the WWE uses the opposite approach - taking the most extreme ends of the conflict and shoving them in the audience's faces in as extreme a manner as possible. It's easy to look at how Hassan was portrayed, or how Khali's "backstory" refers to chasing tigers, and accuse the WWE of being racist. Hell, forgetting that khali means "empty", my first thought when I heard his name was to think it was a misspelled reference to Kali. After all, who doesn't remember Amrish Puri's haunting "Kalima!" cry in Temple of Doom? Sure, Indians - like the majority of minorities portrayed in WWE - are presented in a very caricaturesque fashion. But does this really make the bookmakers racist? For me the real inquiry is to whether or not there's a racist message being presented. I just don't see one here. The guy's just freakishly large. Portraying him as a wild beast from the jungles of India seems more likely to add to his characters mystique than to portray Indians as savages. Regardless of the subjective motives we can read into WWE storylines, the facts are much harder to argue with. The WWE has toured India. Their talent has visited hospitals, fed the homeless, held and posed with the children etc, etc. Seeing some of that brought a tear to my eye. So what if McMahon's the biggest prick on earth? Posted by: Your Missing Funnybone at April 21, 2006 09:39 PMThe Great Khali is f*ck'n huge!!!, I heard he killed another wrestler doing an improper powerbomb....that's bad ass!!! wrestling isnt as fake after all!..I guess "Indians are prrretty happie , my friend" LOL..k then peace out the great khali very great man. great khali you doing very 2 well.keep going. all the india very proud of you. india di shaan. your my hero. Posted by: sahil at April 25, 2006 09:48 PMBeing a hard-core Pro-Wrestling fan (like many of you) for over a decade it is not unnatural that I get excited to see a new entrant...Being an Indian (like most of the writers in this section) it is even more natural for me to get really excited to see a fellow Indian make a mark in the Pro-Wrestling world by joining the biggest of all the leagues - the WWE. But the biggest reason for me to get excited about Dalip Singh entering the WWE is - knowing the giant himself, being a co-competitor in the Mr. India Tournament when it was held in Hyderabad. That was when I met him first and after I came to my senses (after all I don't see a seven footer everyday!) I got to know about his journey to the top (which, everybody knows by now)..where he started and where he is now. He was a true inspiration for the rest of the bodybuilders that time. We did not really think that he would live beyond his 30's, as he was almost un-human and there were rumors (just rumors) that he was on steroids! Now, really glad to see him going strong (not in his prime shape though). Coming back to his run in the WWE - I am some how not convinced that WWE will keep him on board for long. There are too many examples which can be cited and compared with that of Singh...Giant Gonzales, Giant Silva and many other short-lived heels who came and left the WWE. I personally feel that first of all, it is very difficult to sell the characters (gimmicks) such as the ones cited above for a long time consistently, unless the artists/athletes/players are exceptionally talented.. be it their agility or athletic ability or verbal ability. If Khali (surely a miss-spelt Kali - which is NOT empty) is to be a long lived success story in WWE, the creative dept. has to work really hard..not to be too predictable or to feud with very few for very long...But, some how, I don't think, being a practical business man, Vince would invest his resources building the character of Khali. If all the writers in this forum are interested in making the only legit Indian in the WWE a long lived success, we must create a different story line for him and see to that it some how reaches Vince, or his creative team. And as somebody suggested rightly in some other forum, Dalip should never even attempt to speak English..he must continue in Hindi, being helped by Daivari for translation. And if the character somehow becomes a success, I only wish WWE reveals the real life story of Dalip, and also bring in more genuine talent from India into WWE. A request for those who want to comment about the concept of Pro-Wrestling. PLEASE KNOW MORE ABOUT PRO-WRESTLING (or anything in life) BEFORE COMMENTING. The critics need not endorse Pro-Wrestling as "Fake". Pro-Wrestling is definitely different from Wrestling... it is wrestling for entertainment. And the millions of Pro-wrestling fans around the world, of all ages, including me, know that very well. And if all those intellectual critics, who feel that we moron fans of Pro-Wrestling do not know the difference and still spend a good part of our lives getting involved with it (be it watching the TV Shows or browsing the net), may stop wasting their valuable time on this subject and invest else where. Just leave us and let us enjoy it. Thank you. Posted by: Hanan Hamza at February 28, 2007 12:58 AMHEY GUYS dalip singh is a horrendous wrestler... being 7 feet tall and muscular does not automatically qualify you as being a good wrestler... if you watch his matches you can see that he has very little in-ring ability... he's not fluid with his movements and has maybe 3 or 4 moves in his arsenal... the only reason he's in the WWE is because he is a "freak attraction" like viscera was... compare his skill to the big shows and you will see a massive difference.
