We want India in UNSC: Blair

British Prime Minister Tony Blair unequivocally condemned terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and strongly supported India's stand that the menace must end for the success of the composite dialogue between India and Pakistan.
At a press interaction after his 45-minute meeting with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh, Blair said "we totally and completely condemn terrorism associated with Jammu and Kashmir as we condemn terrorism elsewhere."

Terrorists all over the world had no interest in peaceful solutions. They wanted to divide the people, he said after the meeting at his official residence at 10, Downing Street.

Singh said he briefed Blair about the progress in the composite dialogue with Pakistan. India was carrying forward the process despite the threat, posed by terrorist elements, who could be kept under control.

It would become difficult for India to build public opinion in favour of the dialogue process, if terrorism continued, he said.

The Prime Minister said Blair firmly supported India's stand.

The British Prime Minister also reaffirmed his country's resolve to help India secure a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

This was the first high-level meeting between India and Britain since Singh assumed office in May.
