About Aruna:

Smt. Katam Aruna has been given the honor of Smt. Katam Aruna (My Mom) is being declared by the Prakasam District Congress Committee as the Zilla Parishad Chairman (ZPC) Candidate by Congress Party in recognition of the dedicated services that she provided to the Prakasam District people through various activities for the last 25 years. Aruna has started making her major impact in public service life by contesting as an independent MLA 1984. Later she relentlessly worked towards empowerment of women and old, promoting child education, and upliftment of downtrodden through various governmental and non-governmental initiatives. A few of the numerous initiatives that she undertook and positions that she held to make an impact on the society are: All India Radio Regional Rural Advisory Community Member, Providing Pakka Houses to poor, Helping victims of domestic violence and even leading legal cases in extreme circumstances such as dowry deaths, Empowering women by organizing self-help groups and providing them vocational trainings, Leading A.P Liquor Prohibition Struggle, Honorary School Correspondent to promote quality education, Leading AIDS Campaigns in the district, Conducting blood donation camps, Leading Struggle to realize Veligonda Reservior Project, State Sheep Breeders Federation Director, Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Swamy Temple Trust Board Member, Lok Adalat Committee member, Land Assignment Committee member, Monitoring drug distribution by local hospitals, etc.

Zilla Parishad Chairman (ZPC) is a position equivalent to the State Cabinet Minister. All the government officials in the district and all kinds of publicly elected representatives such as MLAs, MPs etc. are accountable to the ZPC.
