Terry Spencer Dr Krishnan, Osama Bin Laden Caught ???????Iran's state radio, quoting an unnamed source, on Saturday said that Osama bin Laden was captured in Pakistan "a long time ago".
The report said that US defence secretary Donald H Rumsfeld’s visit to the region this week was in connection with the arrest.
The state radio said a reporter for its Pushtun service in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar "confirmed the news" that Bin Laden had been captured in a tribal region in Pakistan. He said the news was from "a very reliable source in Peshawar," but the source was not identified.
Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri termed reports of Laden’s capture as "incorrect" after initially declining to confirm them. A few minutes after saying at a joint press conference with visiting French foreign minister Dominique de Villepin that he cannot confirm the reports, Kasuri told reporters the news was "incorrect". Company fires its employees through SMS!South Korea's third-largest credit card issuer fired a quarter of its workforce via mobile phone text messages, after negotiations with striking unionized workers broke down. KEB Credit Service Co sacked 161 employees, a spokeswoman for the company's parent bank said. "The layoff date is February 28," the message said, according to a member of the union. "We will receive applications for voluntary retirement package until February 28." The firm said it had no method for contacting striking staff other than using the short message service (SMS). Unionised workers, who make up nearly 90 percent of the firm's 662 staff, have been on strike since mid-December over a takeover by Korea Exchange Bank (KEB), fearing job cuts. "Marathon negotiations with the labor union fell through early this morning and we had to go ahead with the job cuts," said Lee Nahm-yon, a spokeswoman for KEB. February 27, 2004`Knowledge' Workers Won't Make India ProsperousVia Rajesh Jain Bloomberg.com For those who believe India will on the strength of its ``knowledge'' industries, here's a sobering statistic: three-fourths of Indian workers, or 300 million people, don't have high-school diplomas. India's educated elite is too small, and its purchasing power too limited, to lift the broader economy. What can really make India prosperous is something that will boost the incomes of workers who are stuck in low-productivity occupations -- farmhands and housemaids -- that pay the national average of $500 a year, or less. And that something can only be manufacturing. "The services sector, and in particular the knowledge-based industries, is unlikely to provide opportunities to the poorly educated sections of our society,'' say Sanjay Jain and Uday Bhansali of the consulting firm Accenture India in a study titled "Making Indian Manufacturing Globally Competitive.'' Create more factory jobs, and India's economic growth rate can easily accelerate to 10 percent a year, making it the fastest- growing major economy in the world, the authors argue. It's easier said, than done. There are many factors -- high cost of credit, inflexible labor laws, expensive and unreliable electricity supply, and inefficient ports -- that hamper Indian industry's global competitiveness; although, by far the biggest problem with Indian manufacturing is its insularity. Thanks to the blinkeredness left over from Soviet-style socialism of 1960s and 1970s, the Indian industry treats the local population, a large part of which earns subsistence wages, as the main source of demand for factory-made goods. Manufacturers go on producing large volumes of low-quality, low-margin products to turn a profit. Much of what they make, can't be exported. Where does one begin to break the vicious cycle? The surefire way is to "force'' Indian manufacturers to tap global demand, so they're able to expand operations, and create more and better-paying factory jobs. As more workers find employment in manufacturing industries, they'll have the spending power to demand better goods and services. In a chaotic democracy like India, how does one draw out local manufacturers and make them go global? The easiest way is to open more of the domestic consumer-goods market to overseas investors. Competitive pressures, thus unleashed, would ripple through the supply chain and force even small manufacturers to look beyond the local market. The biggest assistance the Indian government can give local manufacturers is to open the floodgates of competition wider by slashing import tariffs...More than anything else, such a step would be in India's own interest. Let the U.S. worry about saving white-collar jobs, creating more blue-collar jobs should be India's immediate priority.

Bush Bashing By RSSThe Sangh picked up from where Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee left it this week at a BJP minorities meet. RSS spokesman Ram Madhav on Thursday described it as an “insult to the democratic people of our country” and “a direct interference in the internal matters of India.”.
The Sangh has asked the Indian government to lodge “strong protests with the US for infringing on the sovereignty of our country.”
US President George Bush, bound for another election, came in for some hammering: “It will be the saddest day for India if it were to seek lessons on democracy, communal harmony, social justice etc from a country which is run by a person who assumed Presidency despite losing public vote...a democracy that was made to hang precariously for one full month because of its inability to decide who actually won.” There is more. The RSS also described American democracy as one where “Presidents lose elections if their wives do not make up properly for campaigns.” And, “a nation that imprisons hundreds for years without trial using draconian laws, a nation that harasses its own minorities like ISKON, OSHO...and a nation that runs amok over countries like Iraq.” Whereas Indian democracy, said the Sangh , was a vibrant one “where even strong and mighty bite the dust and governments change at the drop of a hat through a perfect democratic coup of the people of India without a single drop of blood flowing.” On Wednesday, Vajpayee had not taken names when he said: “One power is trying to take over the world, we should not allow that to happen.” RSS slams 'Globo-cop' Bush - The Times of India Give me a break, US validating India's democracy, I cannot find anything more hilarious. The country where people has to choose between two parties, they don't have any choice other than two parties is making comments about the vibrant democracy where people has more freedom to choose their leaders. As long as US has a two party system, I will have reservations towards its true democratic nature. Finally one nice protest by RSS.

SC upholds Govt's IIM fee-cut decisionThe Supreme Court on Friday ended the legal challenge to the government's decision to drastically reduce the admission fee to the prestigious IIMs by disposing of a petition on the issue. A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice V N Khare disposed off the petition saying Government has made it clear that it will compensate the deficit to be incurred by IIMs due to reduction of fee. The bench observed Government has also taken the stand that fee reduction would not interfere or influence the autonomy of institutions of excellence. In view of this, the bench disposed of the petition . Hmmm!

hello shurk khan. I am seydaraza and i"m 13 years old i like your moives i love you Kaal moive my sister love you so much and want to see you. Posted by seyda raza.hi shah rukh February 26, 2004How Can I Forgive Them - Bilkis rape Case? When Godhra happened my husband Yakub was unemployed. But we lived in a well-kept home and I was happily married. We had a baby named Saleha. She was three years old. I was five months pregnant. On February 27, 2002, the Sabarmati Express was burnt in the morning. The next morning, the sarpanch of our village took out a rally. It turned violent and people started burning the homes of Muslims in the village. At that point in time we thought of fleeing the village, but our village leaders assured us that nothing would happen, no one would touch us. But then mobs began pelting stones at our homes. We ran for cover. I didn't even wear my chappals. All the Muslims of the village took shelter in the home of former sarpanch Karja kaka [uncle]. We wanted police security, but it was refused. More than 500 Muslim children, women and men were gathered there. We felt unsafe. We wanted to run away but all roads were blocked. At the main exit points they had kept live electric wires. On the 28th midnight they started burning homes systematically. 'We will kill you, chop you off,' they were shouting. The men rushed to the police station with the names of 573 people. We needed protection. But the police refused. Many Muslims then fled to the jungles and hid there for days. On the 28th, for the whole day between 11 am and 8 pm, without food or water, we kept hiding at various places in our own village. But hiding was not possible owing to the charged atmosphere. Wherever we were hiding the host would receive a call that 'you have kept Muslims in your house. You better drive them out, otherwise we will attack your home.' We don't know who called Karja kaka and threatened him. But he got frightened and asked us to vacate his home. Our houses and tempos were burnt. When we asked the police for protection they too advised us to run away from the village. So we left the village and late at night reached former Congress MLA Bijalbhai Damor's home in nearby Chundadi village. He was not at home. His son gave us water and some snacks. But he too asked us to leave after a while. We went to Kuagher village, but here too the Muslims had fled. We stayed overnight in a mosque. On the 28th, we walked so much that my cousin Shamim who was with us got intense labour pains. She was nine months pregnant. It was a very difficult time. She gave birth to a child in the mosque itself. It was a normal delivery. Kuagher village also had a communal clash. We went to Kudra village with the help of tribals. We were around 500 Muslims in the beginning, but later just 17 family members were left. Shamim, who had just delivered a baby, was unable to walk. So all of us stayed back at Kudra and most of our men left the place. My mother, my two sisters, my maternal uncle, my two brothers, my father's sister, her husband and her three sisters were among the 17 persons who stayed back. Some tribals helped us. We hid there for two days. They took pity on Shamim, so along with her all of us were given refuge. They fed us and gave us clothes. To hide our identity we wore tribal clothes. We had to leave their home because many inquiries were made if they had kept any Muslims. We left Kudra at 4 am in disguise. All those days all of us were crying constantly. Fear had captured our hearts and minds. We could not think of much else. The only issue before us was how to save our lives. Out of the 17, four were men, eight were women, and the rest were children. After two days the tribals escorted us to Chaparwad village. From here we thought of meeting Manabhai, an old acquaintance. He lives in Panivela. While going there we rested for a few minutes at a tribal hamlet. The place was between two hillocks and a narrow road passed by it. When we were passing by that road a man came and hit one of my uncles. He fell down and regained consciousness only an hour later. Soon more people came along. All of them were from Randhikpur, my own village. People from Chaparwad gave them our whereabouts. 'Mussalmans are here, kill them, kill them,' they were shouting. They were able to collect more people from Panivela and Chaparwad. We were too tired and helpless. We didn't have the strength to fight back. Since we were running for cover, we never thought of picking up even a stick. We started running in all directions, but we could not escape. We were 17 and they were more than 25. They had come in a Tata Sumo. They started molesting the girls and tore off their clothes. Our naked girls were raped in front of the crowd. They killed Shamim's baby who was two days old. They killed my maternal uncle and my father's sister and her husband too. After raping the women they killed all of them. They killed my baby too. They threw her in the air and she hit a rock. After raping me, one of the men kept a foot on my neck and hit me. They hit me with sticks and stones, then picked me up and threw me into the bushes. I was unconscious. They thought I was dead. But after a few hours I recovered my senses. Those men were using such foul language, I can't repeat it ever. They were saying, 'Since you have killed our people (in Godhra) we will kill you too. We will not leave any Muslims alive." In front of me they killed my mother, sister and 12 other relatives. The way we kill animals, they slaughtered us. On the 28th morning my husband and other family members had gone to a village meeting held at the home of a BJP worker. There they had pleaded for protection. All those who raped me and my sisters and murdered them were present there. Out of 17 only three of us survived -- two small children and me. I have no idea how they managed to survive. There were no Hindu women in the crowd. All of them were young or middle-aged men. While raping and killing us, they were shouting the choicest sexual abuses. When they were raping me I could not even tell them that I was five months pregnant because all the time their feet were on my mouth and neck. Hindus of all castes were involved. My fellow villagers were part of the crowd that killed my relatives. How can I not identify them? They were all my gaonwale [fellow villagers]. After two hours when I opened my eyes I saw that my world had been destroyed. I could not even stand on my feet. But I was scared that people may see me and come back. A night and a day passed on top of the hillock. I was very hungry and thirsty. I could not bear it anymore. I thought I may die of thirst. So I started to come down from the hillock. I saw a hand-pump belonging to some tribals. Those tribals also wanted to beat me up because I am a Muslim. I lied to them and told them in their language that I was one of them. They gave me water and clothes. I slept a little. By that time a police van had started combing the area. They had heard about the killings of families from Randhikpur. They asked me to rest on the back seat of their vehicle. They told me I was very lucky to have survived. I didn't tell them my tale then. They took me to Limkheda. There they gave me food and heard my complaint. I told them everything that I have told you. But they changed my version. They scared me. They said if you make an allegation about rape, you will have to be taken to hospital for a medical checkup. How can you in such a weak state of health go to hospital? They also frightened me by saying that I could be killed. I was too tired to fight with the police. So I dropped the idea and requested them to take me to Godhra camp. I wanted to meet my relatives. My mother, two brothers, two sisters and my three-year-old daughter all got killed. But I can identify all the culprits. I have known the men who raped me for many years. We sold them milk. They were our customers. If they had any shame, they would not have done this to me. Five days after the rape and after taking a bath three times I finally went for a medical checkup. I have the medical certificate that proves rape. I am an uneducated woman. I belong to the Ghanchi community and follow the Tableeghi Jamaat where girls are not sent to school. My father has become deranged after this incident. But I will not leave the fight halfway. How can I forgive them? Source: 'How can I forgive them?' A true story, a true incident that shows how cruel the human beings are and insane they can get. And a ture story of a lady who is fighting the system and fighting for her rights. I want Bilkis to win the fight and show the whole world that they will not be spared for their insanity and give the people of India a ray of hope about the system and its credibility. Whatever I speak about this will be less, the feeling is so deep that its really difficult to express in words.

A truly shocking account. Very disturbing. Posted by Jag.Well, a live story of riots, its is such a horrible situation during riots, humanity is crushed by savegery, time for the so called human beings to satisfy the devil sleeping in them in the most horrific non-guilty conscious way. Can't believe how BJP, by participating in Babri Masjid Demolition, has transformed the wonderful India with in a span of few years into a place where there is mistrust across the nation, if you are muslim you are a culprit. I feel guilty facing my numerous muslim friends when I go to India. I hate discussing it with them, still out of conscience I raise the problem with them indirectly and encourage them to fight for a solution. I don't know if I am doing right or wrong and I really don't know how to find a solution. Posted by Ramdhan Kotamaraja.Yes the story is truly shocking and worrying. However, to NRIs who are not fully aware of the ways in India (and I hesitate how to put this mildly), there is no shortage of people who hate the bjp and modi enough to make up stories - enough for the courts to comment that there is a danger that the affected are being misused by people to further their ends...this is no comment on the veracity of this specific case...just to say let us be careful in arriving at conclusions - there is a full industry in India built up on winning awards and recognition overseas by running down everything even if it means damaging India..I reserve judgement on various stories floating in the Indian press for this reason Posted by indianalways.Hmm, the riots are true, mass killing and brutal raping and killing selectively based on voters lists are true and you are telling not to come to conclusions. I have been in India all the time except during the BJP rule period and I have seen/experienced various incidents in various parts of India, and I know what I am talking about. I love india to the core, and thats the reason why I am so worried about the rising of the fundamentalists and calculative distruction of the credibility of the system. I don't support congress either, its rotten. Posted by Ramdhan Kotamaraja.Well - Indian Cinema industry must also be guilty of conveying some of what goes on - although usually as a backdrop to some love story or something like that. Take for example "Me and Mrs Iyer" and similar films that have characterised intra-community riots etc. If anything - the feelings extend to the NRI communities as well - but the civility, our minority presence and the strength of unocrrupt law-enforcement here in UK does not lead to death by murder or rapes like the above story. The situation is shocking - whether this particular story is true or not. Posted by Jag.Hmm Jag, Well the issue is in India the police system still has the fundamentals from British Raj and carries the culture. British obviously had one kind of police system for Britan and another kind of police system for its colonies. The fundamental policy was the Police is the friend of the society in Britan and Police is the enemy of the society, a tool of the British(currently political/bureaucrat powers) so that they can have a hold on the law and order of the society the way they want. Sadly in India the police system fundamentals are not renovated much after the independence, I know I am whining, but can't help it, there needs to be a fundamental change to be done. And I don't think bollywood has much impact on the core culture, the movie(s) is just giving away information about the possible reality and the emotions in the environment. The story that is under investigaton. Posted by Ramdhan Kotamaraja.Let me tell you frankly, there are many thinks that makes me ashamed of being an Indian. One is BJP and shivsena and these gangs. But most of the time, during riots, people take advantage of the weaker section, to salvage their venganance or long kept secret desires. In this story, these people must have come after these women, just b'cos they know no one will protect them now. The attrocitire are not done by the normal Hindu's whom they met on the way, but by people they know for long. This is what happened to shoba shopping complex in coimbatore 6 yrs ago. By and large, individuals are Good and helping when they are afraid of showing their hatred, but give them a chance, there is no limit to the crimes they will commit. Posted by Windows Games. You are ashamed of being indian because of BJP, Shivsena and gangs? Let me tell you sir/madam...If BJP and Shivsena didn't rule the way the did, India would still be living in 1930s. And believe me, all the glitter, gitter, and porsche'ness' that you see in metro cities, is BECAUSE of these gangs. When the public work needs to be done on an instantaneous basis, there is no law that allows for someone to do quick changes. It's these "anti"social elements that do the work. And of course, whatever happened to Bilkis is truly a sad story and representation of our mental patheticism. On the other hand, it is a good question to raise WHY it happened. And last comment. This may sound disturbing to a lot of you, but I'll write it anyways. Muslims are the fastest growing community (in terms of population) in India. When government is trying to control the birth rate, I don't think they get the message. Or at least MOST of them don't get it. I'd like to know a solution for this situation. 3 Month Old Baby RapedAppalled by the rape of a three-month-old baby at Kheri in Uttar Pradesh in December, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday announced Rs 1 lakh for the child who is at present undergoing treatment at AIIMS at state expense. I have no words except a stunt disbelief, and can't imagine what kind of animal can do this kind of gore act. I have read about babies being killed by chopping off/burning etc. due to family/village/community/caste/religious fueds/riots/hatred/vodoo and thought those acts are dispicable. And now a baby is being made a victim of lust/crazyness what should I call it ?????? I am speechless, dumbfounded and disbelif what a human being can get so low.

Posted by .....India swims into NATO kenIndia has been invited to take part in air exercises with NATO countries in July this year, the first step in what appears to be a new great game to draw New Delhi into the western sphere of influence. The invitation is part of a new American strategy to take NATO beyond the confines of Europe, where ties between Washington and some of its allies are tetchy. Expanding NATO with new members outside Europe, while diluting its "North Atlantic" charter, is evidently aimed at enhancing American influence at the expense of its European allies. Getting India on the NATO platform will also help US scupper the frequently touted Russia-China-India axis . There is now a realisation in US strategic circles that this triangulation could hold the key to future world power, not with black gold (oil), the 20th century’s currency, but with grey cells or intellectual capital. The three countries are expected to have some 300 million educated elites between them in the next three decades, making it a giant intellectual bloc. Just as the US came to depend on the Middle-East for much of its energy needs in the 20th century, it will need to draw on this bloc for the 21st century fuel. British agents spied on Kofi AnnanIn a sensational revelation, a former minister claimed that Britain had spied on the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in the run-up to the Iraqi war, a charge immediately rejected by Prime Minister Tony Blair who termed it "deeply irresponsible." "The UK in this time was also getting, spying on Kofi Annan's office and getting reports from him about what was going on," said Claire Short, who resigned as International Development Secretary protesting Britain's decison to join the US-led invasion of Iraq. She made the revelation in an interview while commenting on the government's decision to drop legal proceedings under Official Secrets Act against Katharine Gun, a former translator with the British spy center who leaked a confidential memo raising concerns about spying in the United Nations. Blair told a press conference at Downing street that "we and previous governmnets have never commented on intelligence exept to say that this country acts in accordance with domestic and international law." He said "I think the fact that those allegations were made I think is deeply irresponsible." Short, asked whether British spies had been instructed to carry out operations within the United Nations on people such as Kofi Annan, said: "Yes, absolutely." "I know, I have seen transcripts of Kofi Annan's conversations," she said. Source: 'British agents spied on Kofi Annan' - Sify.com UN Chief is being spied, where's the world heading. February 25, 2004Filmy ProblemsWell, Filmy Problems, Cinema Kastalu in telugu. What are these? Well in desi movies you will find that when the hero is leading a real happy life with a nice family, nice girl friend, good job/business/college etc. suddenly he finds himself in all kinds of problems, like dad gets paralysis, mom looses speech, sister gets raped, hero gets implicated in a murder case, heroine dumps him(uh ohh, not usually heroine is always with the hero), better one would be best friend dumps him etc, with in a span of 10 to 15 mins movie time, he will end up in all these problems. These are Filmy Problems. For me this week kind of seemed to be like that. Let me see what all I am facing !!! Started week with deadly flu where I don't know if I am awake or asleep at any point of time. Got this fever after almost few years. Found that my laptop's power module is broken again. There is a 30 day warrenty on it, and the stupid thing broke exactly on 31st day and had to shell another $250 to get it fixed. Waaaaaaaaaaaaa. Flu left me with a little residue and that residue is dry caugh, i ignored it and yesterday it became so intense, the skin at the top of my mouth almost got ruptured with the force and amount of caughing I started doing. I had to buy some more medicines, my room is like a typical patients room which I used to hate all the time. Why things that I hate so much come searching for me, I don't know. When ever I call home, i found this new ending from my parents 'God Bless You'. Thats actually is a really good thing, but I kind of get a feeling when George Bush says 'God Bless America'. Feels as if they are showing some kind of mercy on a guy who is completely hopeless. Sorry ma nanna, I know you have good intensions. I successfully broke the repaired laptop with in 2 days, and gave it back for repair. And called up Nick today about the status of the laptop, he told he is not going to give it today as he is afraid I might break it again by wrestling with it. He is waiting for the cemented part to dry completely. So I don't have my laptop in my bed today and cant talk with butterfly. My cellphone antenna broke suddenly and its worse I cannot fix it and cannot afford to buy a newone(Well, the problem is I don't like simple phones, hehehe, and a fancy one costs lot of money). I have to carry the phone and antenna and hold them together and talk, gosh its a nightmare. The shoe that I have been loving and using for almost a year, broke yesterday, huh, whats going on, every thing is breaking or am I having outdated stuff, c'mon they are just a year old. My car today is making some weird sounds, and my heart started making weird sounds listening to the sounds of car, arrghhhhhh, i am getting looted. Tried to go to 'The Passion of Christ' and they put a sold out board, gosh its crazy going this way. Tried to call Namrata, and seems like she is very angry with me and she banged phone on my face and switched of phone, she also seemed very very sick caughing like hell, poor girl must be out of her brain with sickness. Arvind gave deadline of this week for the logo stuff that I promised him. Found out that there is chance that butterfly might fly away, oh nooo, hmmmmm don't know, butterfly is more beautiful when it is actually flying freely, right. Its really tough to handle so many things are a simgle instance, I am going nuts, and still half of the week is left. Among all the filmy problems, hero still will have ray of hope and finally he will for sure come out as victor. Same way, I got some kind of hope, found a new room mate, Kulasekharan, and he loves cleaning stuff, I find the apartment especially kitchen clean all the time, what a relief. Then actually got a million hits idea, not million dollar idea silly, a million hits on website idea and told that to Sirhari. He got all excited about it and started working on that which is even better where all I do is give idea and sit and watch. I am just sitting tight and waiting for this week to pass by, so as to see a better next week.

i pity u so much annna. neeku distitagiliuntundi. Where is the soul in Mel's 'The Passion Of Christ'?Mel Gibson has set a record: no Biblical film in history has ever had the kind of brutality as his The Passion Of The Christ. A soul-less film, though well acted by James Caviezel and stunningly photographed by Caleb Deschanel, it does not offer illuminating thoughts on Jesus Christ. The debate whether the film will perpetuate prejudice and anger against Jews for their perceived role in the killing of Christ will continue. Meanwhile, the evangelical Christians who are rushing to see the film with their children may want to do something fast: look for therapists to handle their trauma and nightmares after seeing this exercise in gore. Even adults who have seen the most violent films ever could find it difficult to keep their eyes open many times. For a nation still consumed by the controversy over Janet Jackson showing her nipple over television, one could say that transgression was indeed pardonable compared to the debauchery of violence in this film. If there is a film festival for fetishistic films, Gibson's movie will be hailed as a classic for its depiction of the beating and torture Christ had to endure. The flogging scene alone takes over ten minutes. You see the skin tearing and tiny pieces of flesh coming off his body slowly. The crown of thorns is then -- slowly -- hammered onto his head, and we get to see more blood drip down the face. Wait, don't close your eyes. Wait for the spikes to be hammered into his palms. Given the wide controversy, the movie could open big. And given its medium-range budget ($25 million), it may not lose any money at all. It will of course be interesting to see what kind of tortuous fate awaits it in the long run. Some of the finest films of our times, including The Godfather saga have had plenty of violence. But in Gibson's film, which portrays the last 12 hours before Christ was crucified, graphic scenes of torture overwhelm the viewer so much that we get to see little of Christ's soul. If I were to see a more insightful about Christ, I will revisit The Gospel According to St Matthew, the 1996 film directed by Pier Paolo Passolini, the leftist Italian director who admired Christ's egalitarian outlook. But Jewish elders, convinced that Christ is a heretic, call for his crucifixion. The Romans are only happy to carry it out. There are many disagreeing accounts of Pilate in the Gospels and religious books. Some show him as a ruthless administrator and some a political pawn. Here, Pilate appears to be a sympatric character, and there is no doubt in Gibson's mind about that. Nowhere does the film hint that Christ died for humanity. It does not echo the thoughts of many Catholic theologians that the death was in response to universal sins. The few kind Jewish characters are the people who like Christ and are beholden to him: Maia Morgenstern, a Jewish actress, plays his mother and Monica Bellucci is well cast as Mary Magdalene. But their parts are limited, and we see them do little beyond shedding a few tears for Christ. That they managed to do it well is some relief. There are moments the movie sends mystical sensations down the spine like the eerie sequence in the Garden of Olives, where Jesus is being tempted by Satan (Rosalinda Celentano). But soon Gibson is possessed by a sado-masochistic streak and there is very little chance of a redemption. Source: Where is the soul in Passion?

BPO Humor In USA"The White House announced today that it is outsourcing the work of the president's Council of Economic Advisers to India," Orstein wrote in the Washington Post . "Ramindar Prabhakesh, an economist who teaches Introductory Economics and Macroeconomics at Bangalore University, will take over as chairman. He will earn one-sixth the salary of his outsourced predecessor, N Gregory Mankiw." Jacob Grier, a young humourist spoofing as a "staff writer" for The Hemingway Star got stuck into CNN Moneyline anchor Lou Dobbs, who has been running a virulent anti-outsourcing campaign. CNN has "announced" that Lou Dobbs Tonight will now be called Lokesh Narayan Tonight and be broadcast from Mumbai, he wrote. Offshoring woes: Laugh 'em off - The Times of India When cartoonists get into the trade govt. usually starts taking things seriously. I have seen a spate of love/hate emails exchanged in the local JavaMug jobs user group. But that kind of ended in a getting down the tempers of people down and guiding them towards a possible solutions by various people and it was really interesting to see the development. The comment that I thought was best is: A very simple change to the visa program would fix everything. Simply remove the requirement to have sponsorship from a specific employer. Currently, visa holders are unable to stand up for their rights, because if they're fired or if they quit, they loose the sponsor for their visa, and must either find a new job within 30 days or leave the country. Thus, they don't complain or quit. Believe me, visa holders want the same rights (and salaries) that you want. Forget a cap on agency fees. This is what you should write your congressman about. This rule of loosing the status with in 30 days after a H1B holder looses the job is basically giving too much control to the employers and shutting down the real voices of H1B holders.

Pakistan wants Kashmir ceasefire by militants, jihadis in a fix He said Pakistani authorities were arguing that the "jihad", or holy war, was no longer a viable option as the country presses for a resolution of the Kashmir dispute with India. The Pakistani military is widely believed to have used militant groups to recruit and train proxy fighters and wage guerrilla war on Indian forces across the Line of Control dividing Kashmir between the nuclear rivals. But the level of support for the rebels has been drastically reduced in recent months, making it harder for them to maintain their operations. "Nobody is prepared any longer in the outside world to listen to our viewpoint that the armed struggle in Kashmir is not terrorism but a freedom struggle," the commander quoted a Pakistani official as saying. Nuclear rivals Pakistan and India have begun peace talks on the Kashmir dispute, which has triggered two of their three wars. Source: Pakistan wants Kashmir ceasefire by militants, jihadis in a fix

Good news for IT sector: Thousands of new jobsJobs in India's booming software services sector are estimated to grow 23 per cent in the year to March 2004, as the sector benefits from outsourcing by global clients, an industry association said on Wednesday. The number of jobs in India's information technology (IT) and back-office services sectors -- at the forefront of a drive to make the one billion people-strong nation a services powerhouse -- has multiplied five-fold over seven years, the report said. Exports from the industry, whose main market is the United States, are forecast to rise between 26 and 28 per cent to around $12.0 billion, up from $9.5 billion in the previous year. February 24, 2004The coming decline of AmericaIf there is one thing I am willing to bet my last (declining) dollar on, it is that American power has peaked. Economic power certainly has; and military power will follow. A country's economic power depends on its competitive strengths, and two in particular: you either have to provide the rest of the world with resources that only you can provide; or you must offer a huge market for their exports. On both counts, American strengths are on the ebb. Its huge current account deficit suggests that exporters are taking risks in selling their wares for dollars. When it comes to providing resources, barring high technology and defence, the rest of the world offers better bargains. Broadly speaking, China offers better low -- and middle-level skilled labour, and India higher -- skill services. The best tell-tale signs of America's decline are emotional ones: you can't hide angst and disappointment. These days one sees more whining than shining in the US. Today's Americans are more likely to blame the whole world for their problems than themselves. When the world's sole hyperpower acts like a crybaby, something is amiss. Do not mistake a whine for what is the begining of an angry growl. We created the technology that enables your new found prosperity. We know who is responsible for the theft of ours and it isn't you. Make no mistake, Americas strength lies in its flexibility and the determination that can only grow in a population of diverse cultures from all over the world. The hands stirring the pot will leave you as they left us for cheaper labor when it matures. Watch the American and Indian VCs to see where your jobs will go within this decade. India not yet shining: The EconomistIndia is not yet shining mainly due to widening fiscal deficit and unemployment, but if the present NDA Government succeeds in election, then the country should be better placed to take advantage of shining economic opportunity, according to The Economist magazine. "Not yet," argues The Economist 'India Survey' that delved into India's current outlook, foreign policy, political and the economic situation. The concern areas -- unemployment, widening fiscal deficit, under-investment, widening polarisation between the rich and poor parts of the country -- continue to drag the economy downwards, the survey said. February 23, 2004Voting is a fundamental 'DUTY'Voting during election is a fundamental 'DUTY', not a right, you read it right, its a fundamental duty of a citizen, do you know where? Its in IRAN, surprises, well I am also surprised to hear about this in NPR program today. Every citizens voting history(whether they participated in voting or not) is recorded and it is used as a criteria for jobs, education, promotions, etc. What a concept, I really felt that this should be implemented in all democracies across the world so that more people will come forward and start voting instead of sitting at home and that will for sure make a huge difference to the nature of democracy.

February 22, 2004Conversions: Escape from high-caste Hindu intoleranceThe process of driving away Dalits from Hindus began in the early eighties. In April 1981, the Indian Express broke the story that harassed by the police and upper caste Thevars 180 Dalit families have converted to Islam in the Meenakshipuram helmet in Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu. The problem began with the murder of two higher caste Thevars in the nearby village of Mekkarai. The police picked up some Dalits suspects, keeping them in detention for more than a month. By espousing Islam the Meenakshipuram Dalits chose the escape from iniquitous Hindu social order. Christian missionaries have also been working amongst the most deprived classes and the poorest regions. They offer education, health care and an escape from social oppression - a new religious identity where everybody is to be equal. And what has been the Hindu response - destroy the churches, attack the nuns and burn Father Stains alive but never address the problem of social inequality - the root cause of Hindu conversions. And now the Buddhist organisations are coming forward in Gujarat to challenge the Chief Minister Modi's vision of a vibrant Hinduism. On Sunday, September 5, Bhente Sanghapriya, the leader of Vishwa Baudha Sangh proudly displayed a legion of 6,000 newly converts. One of them, Deveshwar Khatri, who had come from Bharuch said: "Dalits have no rights. I am embracing Buddhism because it treats all humans as equals.'' Hinduism has no hope as long as it hates its own people. Upper-caste intolerance of Dalits will inevitably result in the further fragmentation of Hindu society. And organised political forces are working on a strategy to exploit this incapacitating weakness of Hindu society. What Hindus need today is not the VHPs' tunnel visioned, temple obsessed, narrow Hindutva but an intelligent, forward looking, magnanimous, all-embracing Hinduism - a broad church that respects its own people as well as the people of all religions. Read More: FEATURES SAMACHAR -- The only bookmark on Features you'll ever need I have a troubling question for a long time. What will be the caste of a person who adopts/converts to Hinduism. Any answers? If there is no answer to this, then Hinduism cannot grow in the long run and I believe that is the major reason why Hinduism is confined to India and to people who migrated from India. The rest are not Hindus at all even if they try to worship Hindu Gods, b'cos they don't have existance with out a caste being attached to them in Hindu society. The irony is that almost 1/6th of the worlds population directly or indirectly follow hinduism and so it has sustained/is sustaining /will sustain even though it is fundamentally flawed by the discriminatory structure built into it. And the biggest irony is I say I am a Hindu, even though I hate the caste system to the core. I am not an ideal person, i am a sucker of the system too, should I call it struggle for existance, lol.

Dravid named International Sports Personality of YearStar batsman Rahul Dravid has won the Sony TV's International Sports Personality of the Year award for 2003. Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear. So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end. It won't matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant. So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave. What will matter is not your success, but your significance. What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example. What will matter is not your competence, but your character. What will matter is not how many people you knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when you're gone. What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you. What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what. Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice. Choose to live a life that matters.

February 21, 2004Sania wins first WTA titleTeen sensation Sania Mirza added one more feather to her cap by becoming the first Indian to win a WTA title when she paired with Lizel Huber of South Africa to win the Hyderabad Open doubles title at the LB stadium at Hyderabad on Saturday. The Indo-African pair upset third seed Ting Li and Tian Tian Sun of China 7-6 (7/1), 6-4 to win a purse of US $ 6,500 and 95 ranking points. The runners-up went home richer by USD 3,475 and 67 points. Playing in front of a highly supportive crowd, Sania and Huber raced to a 4-1 lead against the Chinese duo in the first set before they allowed their opponents to crawl back into the match with some unforced errors. The Chinese pair levelled the score at 5-5 and then broke Sania's serve to take the lead. However, Huber and Sania recovered very well to force the set into a tiebreaker and then rushed to a 7-1 verdict. The 17-year-old, who won the Wimbeldon girls doubles championship last year, then grew in confidence and complementated the World no. 11, Huber, very well to take the second set and the title with ease. "After winning the first set, I was confident of winning the match," Sania told reporters after winning the title. The local lass, who will be preparing for the next months Standard 12 examination before the Feb Cup, said her stint with Italian coach Bob Brett had improved her game remarkably. Commenting on the experience of playing alongside the South African, she said "Huber is a better player and joining her to win my first WTA title is a thrilling experience." Huber was all praise for the local girl and said "she has improved a lot and can play even better." Source:Sania wins first WTA title
