First Attempt at GMAT Test

Finally after a month of deciding to embark on GMAT prep, i took the first test today and I scored 640, which surprised me. I thought I would end up doing somewhere arround 600. I scored 640 by missing almost 7 questions in quant section. I could not believe that the testing engine told me my time is up even when though there is about 15 mins time left in that section according to my estimate. Probably I was not reading the time properly, next time I need to be more observant.

One thing is sure, I screwed up the essay writing section completely. I need to do a little bit more practicing on that. If the current trend continues, I think scoring a 700+ will not be a big deal at all, so excited at the feeling itself.

But I have observed a few things today while taking the test.

#1 I need to be more relaxed and stay calm
#2 I need to sit far from the computer screen, so that there will be more space between me and computer which I can use to draw some mental diagrams. This space is actually helping me to have a more relaxed approach to the test.
#3 I need to make sure that I get accoustomed to the 4 hour test taking schedule by practicing more.
#4 I have to figure out the most relaxing sitting posture so that my brain can work more actively in solving the problems instead of brooding about the inconveniences.
#5 Keep an eye on the time and manage time appropriately. Actually I need to work on allocating the appropriate time interval for each set of questions. Like allocating about 2 1/2 mins for the first 10 questions, as they will determine the ultimate score, that comes to arround 25 mins. and leave me with about 50 minutes for the rest of the questions. I will need to allocate about a minute to one and a half minute for the rest of the questions. I will have to work on this more.

Anyways, a very good starting, I am happy and confident that I will come out with a flying score. Wish me best of luck.

Hello.
My name is Lorin Molloy, I am a senior from Clark Montessori. You are probably wondering why I am emailing you. Well every year as a senior you are informed of the mandatory projects you will be doing over the course of the school year. The most important project being that of the senior project. The senior project is made for the senior student to study in extreme either their passion or something they have always wanted to learn more about. The student is to then spend a whole year studying the topic of their choice . In addition of studying the topic there is a list of mandatory assignments that must be accomplished. One of the most important being that the student must have a mentor that has previous experience on the topic. A mentor is someone who will help guide and support the student, not every step of the way just when a question arises on the topic of their expertise. If you are not interested in doing this project or think you have no real knowledge on the subject, would you please pass it on to someone who can help me out. I hope to learn more about how are dreams effect our everyday life and how our life effects our dreams. If Gadhi was alive ?

Perhaps more bizarre is the fact that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was sitting with Gandhi just before Gandhi walked to his death. There have also been questions about why the Mahatma was not rushed to hospital and instead taken inside his living quarters in Birla Bhavan. Even though there was no way Gandhi’s frail body could have survived three bullets, it was odd, at the very least, that he was taken inside the house rather than to a hospital.

Like all assassinations that have taken place in post-Independence India, there has been little clarity about what Gandhi’s conspirators sought to achieve. While broad hints have been dropped now and again about how big powers hate leaders with grassroots support and independent minds, investigators have seldom gone beyond the motive of a Nathuram Godse, a Beant Singh (one of Indira Gandhi’s killers) or a Dhanu (Rajiv Gandhi’s suicide bomber).

It would be interesting to do an analysis of what would have happened if Gandhi had not been killed. Would he have lived to be 100 or 125, as he so desired? If he had lived to 100, he would have been around till 1969, till which time India had seen two wars with Pakistan and one with China. It would have also been battered by, besides, scores of riots and other miseries. The question is: would these wars have taken place if Gandhi had been around? Where would all the arms and ammunition sold by merchants of death ensconced in London and Washington have gone?

ACID is good, take it in small doses

Some of you may remember the Five Minute University by Father Guido Sarducci of Saturday Night Live fame. In five minutes, Sarducci teaches you everything you actually remember from college after five years. His topics include Economics (supply and demand), Spanish (¿Cómo está Usted? Muy bien), Theology (Where is God? God is everywhere) and Business (Buy something, sell it for more).

If Sarducci’s Five Minute University were to cover Transaction Theory, he would probably teach you “ACID is good. Take it in short doses.” Congratulations if you still remember that after five years out of college. As with all of Sarducci’s five-minute phrases there is no explanation behind the five-minute phrases. When I talk with the developers on your team, they tell me they need a dedicated build machine. I'm partly to blame. See, I've been showing them a free build scheduler that, after just a few minutes of configuration, will continuously build your software with no human intervention. That's good for them, and it's even better for you. Let me tell you why.

If you build and test your software once an hour, no problem is more than an hour old.
This makes it easier to find and fix problems, which saves time and money, and lets your team concentrate on adding new stuff, not fixing old stuff.
The continuous build process feeds you valuable and timely information, letting you manage the development more tightly.

Here's how it works: Every hour, for example, and only if new work has done, the build scheduler checks out a fresh copy of your project from version control and attempts to build the project. The build process includes compiling all of your project's source files, running an arbitrary number of tests, and generating any other build artifacts, such as project metrics. If, for any reason, the build process is unsuccessful, then the build scheduler can notify you via email, your cell phone, RSS, or a visual device such as a lava lamp. You can also use your web browser to view the current status of the build, or any prior build.

Running builds throughout the day whenever changes are made to the project is a tireless job, which is exactly why you don't want your developers doing it. They would rather focus their time and energy on writing quality code that ultimately helps you deliver valuable software to your customers. But building the software on a frequent interval is also an important job because finding and fixing integration problems right before a release---when you have the lowest tolerance for risk---can be costly. With the build scheduler constantly integrating your software, problems are detected almost as soon as they're introduced, giving your team the maximum amount of time to fix those problems before they start to compound. In turn, you receive the benefit of knowing the health of the software all day, every day.

Your developers already understand the value of continuous builds. They know getting constant feedback about the build will help them stay on track. They know staying on track is equally important to you. And they're happy to invest a few minutes setting up a build scheduler that continues to pay back precious dividends: time and money. There's just one minor problem. Thankfully, it's one of those unique problems that can be quickly solved with a one-time expenditure. That's where you can help by approving that expenditure. Simply put, your project can't afford not to have a dedicated build machine.

Now, you might be thinking that with all the machines on developers' desks you already have plenty of horsepower for continuous builds. But it's not about horsepower; it's about availability and independence. Running continuous builds on a development machine will slow down the developer who owns that machine. The money you save by not purchasing a dedicated build machine will quickly be overrun by paying a developer to work slower. Additionally, a dedicated build machine is independent in the sense that it hasn't been biased toward any particular developer. It takes what's in version control to be all that's necessary to create a build. If the build succeeds on the dedicated build machine, it means that anyone on the project can create a build given access to your version control system. You get the peace of mind of knowing that everything that goes into the release is safely tucked away in a centralized repository.

Finally, please allow me to summarize by presenting the economics that I continue to see ignored by your competitors. Consider that on average your ten-person development team costs, conservatively, $500 per hour. (It's probably more like $1000 per hour when you consider all the care and feeding expenses.) If your team spends a total of two hours over the life of the project debugging integration problems (start counting whenever you hear a developer cry "But it works on my machine!"), then you've already paid for a respectable build machine. Then when you consider that those debugging sessions are delaying your product going to market, you really can't afford not to have a dedicated build machine.

I hope this helps clarify what you may have heard about continuous integration. If you have any questions or concerns, let me know.

DRAW Flash Files

DrawSWF - A Java Drawing Application to generate Flash Animations. This is a really really cool tool, have fun using this.

DrawSWF is a simple drawing program written in Java2. You can save your drawings as animated flash file.
The internal storage format is SVG which means that DrawSWF can also be (ab)used as DrawSVG (no animations yet). By changing the internal storage format to SVG it is no longer possible to load animations created before DrawSWF 1.2.0.

At the moment the following graphic operations are implemented:

Naxalism - Democracy

A phenomenon is going on in Andhra Pradesh. The new congress govt. under the aegis of Hon. C.M Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara reddy, has made tremendous progress in bringing the Naxalites to the discussion table. The leaders of the movement who have been under ground for almost 20years came out into public and participating in public functions/rallies. This is certainly an amazing phenomenon to watch.

Naxalites came out with a certain agenda to make sure that their demands are honored by the, some of them are good and some of them are outrageous.

They are standing behind the failed leninist/maoist principles which have failed in Soviet Uniona and China. But come to think of it, a rational usage of the policies might have very positive effect in Indian society which is divided grossly on caste lines (No matter which religion you belong to, you will have a caste in India).

Naxalites are in favor of forming a new Telangana State, that means they want to come into main stream politics. As there is huge movement going on to form Telangana state, Naxalites might have recognized this as an opportunity to get into main stream politics. Telangana seems to be inevitable in the near future with the kind of movement that is going on now. I am completely in favor of Naxalites coming into mainstream politics, as it will reinforce that Vote is mightier that gun. What I really wish is that, they join main stream politics even with out the state being divided along the regional lines. It does not matter what kind of idealism they belong to, as long as people vote them into power that idealism is a good one and the amazing power of democracy is 'Self Correction' during elections that come every 5 years and sometimes intermitantly. Naxalites should join the main stream politics and at the same time honor the Indian Constitution, that will be the victory for democracy. That might be a new dawn to the Indian politics which have become highly corrupt now.

Unless we totally eliminate the communism CPI(M) from India, there is no way, India can (1) Feed the Hungry. (2). Because, in order to feed people, we have to produce food. (3). Unless we have massive investments, in Infrastructures, Agriculture, Industries, and other supporting industries, India, even with so much 'Brain Power', will not be able to produce food, and will not be able to keep Indian Freedom. It is senseless to be fighting on Siachen, the world’s highest and coldest battlefield. No one understands this better than the Indian Army, which was, in 1984, asked to rush to the glacier by then prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Despite several attempts to disengage from the icy heights and withdraw to agreed positions, as a prelude to the demilitarisation of the battle zone, India and Pakistan have failed to reach an agreement. The Pakistan army’s incursion into Kargil district in 1999 has hardened the Indian stance further.

The genesis of the Siachen conflict lay in the inexplicable decision, after the 1971 war, of the Line of Control (LoC) demarcation committee to limit the demarcation of the LoC up to map reference NJ 9842. Beyond this point, the agreement stipulated that the LoC was to run “thence north to the glaciers”.

Whether the Siachen area has major strategic significance is debatable.

Any military confrontation in itself is senseless. But seen in a larger context, the picture may be different.

The problem is one of trust. There simply is not enough trust to warrant a climbdown, even if Pakistan were to agree tomorrow.

Never withdraw our troops from Siachen Glacier

Our nation was taken to the cleaners by Nehru who sold out the Indus river water to Pakistan with the infamous one sided perpetual Indus water treaty that gave away more than 84.6% of river water to Pakistan. It was the most treacherous thing done by Nehru. Added to that all the catchments areas that are lying in J&K was occupied by Pakistan and the Pakistanis even exchanged some of our land with china. Pakistanis sent its troops to the Siachen Glacier that feeds the Indus river to occupy and control it. We should have stood for the independence of Tibet which is the catchment area of many of our main rivers. Yet the lack of concern by Nehru and the congress party clearly shows that Nehru was a traitor and the talk that Nehru's grandfather was a muslim appears to be true. The news that even Subash Chandra Bose was in India and was living in hiding in fear of Nehru is bound to raise doubts about the true nature of Nehru in the minds of Indians.
Now with two ISI agents, one our PM who approved the Pakistani ISI bank BCCI, branch opening in India in 1983 and Sonia who worked in UK under a Pakistani ISI operative who had office in Dubai for 5years, raise real fears that India is being taken to the cleaners. Pakistanis came out with various proposals to remove our troops on Siachen Glacier, including a peace park to remove us from there. Never trust these Pakistanis on this.

Well said Kumar. Even before the Indus river treaty, That selfish custard called Nehru wanted to be PM. This is why Jinnah wanted Pakistan as they both wanted glory as India's first PM.

There is something in an Indian's blood that makes a mockery of ethics, honesty and pride in one's actions.

It is not a surprise that today there exists over a billion Indians with poor values. Bribes anyone?

Siachen war is the world's stupidest war in the history of man. The war is a clear example of the stupidity of governments. The glacier basin is of no strategic value-the region is only of use to geologists and climbers. further, the restoration of the environment will cost probably a few billion dollars to remove all unexploded munitions and garbage.

Well certainly i think there is no use in fighting for Siachen....i saw on ndtv abt Siachen Battle field special episode ! OMG i can belive out that out of ever 10 five of them die due to cold!. its all paki's who started it ....today we talk abt peace process but it will not last longer.

In an industry obsessed with good looks, it’s hard to imagine that a short man with a funny nose and clumsy hair would rise to heights of stardom.

But then again, Shah Rukh Khan has always been unconventional.

Unlike most Bollywood bigwigs, Shah Rukh’s academic career spans several years.

While his formative years were spent in St Columbus High School, he later went to study at St Stephen’s College and Hansraj College. He did his masters in Mass Communication from Jamiya Miliya Islamiya. He fell in love and married a girl from a conventional Hindu home, his college sweetheart Gauri after a Bollywood-style romance and courtship. With Gauri, Shah Rukh later had two children — a son, Aryan and a daughter Suhana.

In 1989, after the death of both his parents, Shah Rukh moved to Bombay where his acting career began. On hindsight, once again he defied convention by making his debut on a television serial Fauji.

After receiving a good response, he took up a role in another TV serial, Circus, produced by Aziz Mirza. His association with Mirza grew into a strong friendship as he began to act in Mirza’s films, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman being one in many.

Forty-two films old, Shah Rukh rules Bollywood. Besides acting, he also produces films under his own production company, Dreamz Unlimited, along with actress Juhi Chawla. Currently, he is awaiting the release of his next film — choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan’s debut venture, Main Hoon Na.

Hi, Mr. Khan sir, I think that if I ever saw u at a concert I would totaly "flip out" and then "faint"! I've always had only 1 dream: 2 c u in real life.
