Open Source CMS Matrix

http://www.opensourcecms.com/ has published The CMS Matrix - cmsmatrix.org - The Content Management Comparison Tool

This tool is really cool. It has all the open source CMS's listed with checkeboxes. One can select the checkboxes and compare their features. A comprehensive search is also provided where one can select the features they are looking for and the tool will list the CMS's that are suitable. Very cool and highly useful tool.

Application Preparation Blues

The application preparation blues are creeping in on me. As the deadlines approaches, I am becoming nervous, sleepy, apprehensive, bla bla bla. But I have to do this and submit a perfect application. This time I don't want to succumb to this kind of pressure and go take the success. Actually there is a fear called - 'FEAR OF SUCCESS'. Sometime, I feel as if I have a lot of it, but this is the time to just get over it, go with full force and achieve success and embrace it.

Jesus / Moses / Old Man Playing Golf

Soure: http://jokes2go.com/

Moses, Jesus and an old man are golfing.

Moses steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It goes sailing over the fairway and lands in the water trap. Moses parts the water and chips the ball onto the green.

Jesus steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It goes sailing over the fairway and lands in the water trap. Jesus just walks on the water and chips the ball onto the green.

The old man steps up to the tee and hits the ball. It goes sailing over the fairway and heads for the water trap. But, just before it falls into the water, a fish jumps up and grabs the ball in its mouth. As the fish is falling back down into the water, an eagle swoops down and grabs the fish in its claws. The eagle flies over the green where a lightning bolt shoots from the sky and barely misses it. Startled, the eagle drops the fish. When the fish hits the ground, the ball pops out of its mouth and rolls into the hole for a hole-in-one.

Jesus then turns to the old man and says, "Dad, if you don't stop fooling around, we won't bring you next time."

Sania Mirza Won Hyderabad Open

See photo gallery at @ Andhrajyothy.com
Source: Sania Mirza wins Hyderabad Open - Sify.com
The unseeded 18-year-old, backed by a vociferous crowd, held her nerve in a scintillating final match to beat ninth seed Alyona Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4 5-7 6-3 at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh complex.

ESPN Reports: Subcontinental Shift

Mirza, ranked 131st in the world, is a former Wimbledon junior doubles winner.

"I had a great tournament," Mirza, 18, said. "The final could have gone either way."

Bondarenko, ranked 107th, was seeking her first tour title.

"I was really nervous playing in a final, it turned out to be a tough one," Bondarenko said.

Playing an overall solid match in front of a boisterous home crowd, Mirza overcame a jittery start that saw her drop her first service with three double faults.

The best of the match is that Sania handled the the tension with nerves of steel and went ballistic in the last set to win the cup.

Go sania Goooo!!!!!!

Sania storms into Hyderabad Open final

Sify.com reports: Sania storms into Hyderabad Open final

Sania Mirza overcame a spell of erraticity and a stubborn opponent to storm into her maiden WTA final at the USD 140,000 Hyderabad Open here on Friday.

The 18-year-old, who became the first Indian to reach the third round of a Grand Slam event at the Australian Open last month, got the better of eighth seed Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) in the semifinals at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh stadium here.

Egged on by a vociferous crowd, Sania looked like running away with the match as she opened up a 3-0 lead in the second set. But in a bid to finish off the match as early as possible she committed far too many unforced errors to her own liking and allowed her opponent to come back into the match.

Sania, in fact, made two successive double faults in the ninth game while serving for the match, thereby losing her serve.

And when the Hyderabadi lass failed to hold her serve in the 11th game, it looked like the Indian was beginning to lose the plot.

However, Sania had a different plan as she came up with a couple of big winners in a long-drawn 12th game and save a set point to force a tie-breaker.

Utlra Seepd Raeidng - Ultra Speed Reading

Disclaimer:

There is no scientific evidence behind this application. This comes with no warranty.

Click here to access 'Ultra Speed Reading' practice applet.

To download the application go to this link.

FAQ

#0 What is this and where did this come from?
Ans: For a while there is a messsage that is travelling on internet about a research at Cambridge University. The message is as below:
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Or rather...

According to a researcher (sic) at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be at the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself but the word as a whole.

One day I tried reading this text and realized that when I read it fast, I am able to read it very easily. Then I thought of making an application which can randomly shuffle the words of a whole essay and try to increase my reading speeds. After developing it, I thought to open it up up for everybody, to use and benefit from it. I hope that this will help you to increase your reading speeds and comprehending abilities. If you find it useful, please let me know. I will be glad to hear from you.

#1 How should I read the shuffled text?
Ans: In my experience, if you try to read shuffled text slowly it will be difficult for you to read. But, if you read the FAST, you will be able to read it easily, thus increasing your reading speeds as well as your comprehending abilities.

#2 Applet is not loading. What should I do?
Ans: Please down load Java Plug in from http://java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp. Restart your computer and you should be good to go.

#3 I am not able to copy paste content from external sources. What should I do?

Ans: This happnes due to the security constraint of the browser. You have to do a few things to allow this to happen.

    a) Follow step #2.

    b) Locate a Java Icon in the from of java cup in right-bottom corner of your computer if you are using Windows operating system.

    c) Right click on the Java cup icon and select "Open Control Panel".

    d) In the pop-up window select "Open/Show Control Panel" radio button as shown in the images below. You will be able to see on of the below images based on the java version on your desktop. Once done go ahead and open a new browser and you should be able to copy paste content from external sources.

#4 Still have questions more questions?
Ans: Mail me @ ram.dhan@gmail.com

Finally, I love to hear your comments from you, please feel free to leave a comment below.

Hi Ram,
Can i get a desktop copy of the applet- something like an executable - so that i can run the tool as and when i need it, without connecting to the internet?

Thanks,
Satish VArma

Posted by Satish Varma.

Hi Satish,

I Didn't think about it, i will compile a desktop version and upload it soon.

Posted by Ramdhan Kotamaraja.

Hi,

Your applet is on the right track, and I was HAPPY to find it, but it has a major flaw (in my opinion).

I would suggest that it ALWAYS scramble any word of four or more letters if it can.

As it is currently behaving, it allows the unscrambled form of the word as one of the possible outcomes. This causes text not to scramble enough .

For example, I put in the following text:

Are the new voip telephones really good enough ?
I find that the quality of sound is not great,
particularly when I use the phone to record the
greeting of another phone line, such as my cell
phone.

and your applet produces:

Are the new viop tleephoens raelly good enoguh ?
I find that the qauilty of sunod is not graet,
partiuclarly wehn I use the ponhe to record the
gretenig of another pnohe lnie, scuh as my cell
phnoe.

It would be better in my opinion if the scrambled version of this text were NOT allowed to show "find" or "that" or "record" or "another" or "cell" .

In other words, my request is that if the applet can scramble a word under the rules (which it can for most words longer than 3 letters, not all, since the word "good" can't be scrambled !) then it should scramble it.

What do you think ?

Thanks !

can i get the desktop version or can u tell me where i can download this script ?

Posted by MikeHo.

Hey Ramdhan Yadav,

Men you are really doing a good job. I found the application quite intresting. Can you mail me the application so that I can use it as and when required.

Regards,
Ashish Malpani.

Posted by Ashish Malpani.

Hi Eric,

Thank you for the good comments and pointers. My objective of developing this tool is just to help people practice speed reading. Scrambling each and every word is not a necessary requirement.

Mike/Ashish,

I will try to release a desktop version asap.

Thank You,

Very interesting! I saw this first on NGC channel a few days ago, and decided to try it for myself. I wasn't aware of this applet so I wrote my own pascal program just a few hours ago to check it out, see below.

I find it annoying that you can not copy and past text into the applet. It is kind of redundant to have to type your own text in, before re-reading it.

Gosh, what a relief-------

Today I talked to my boss about my my plans about going to an MBA school. I opened the discussion with 'I want to apply for IVY League School'. To my surprise he was really excited about and gave me a lot of advice. We discussed about 1 hour and I cannot be any more happy, at the end of the discussion. I have been planning to talk to him about this for the last week or so and I was really really apprehensive about the outcome and I guess the stress actually took a toll on me and I am all relieved today. Its certainly a major boost for me.

If Gandhi had Internet Access...

DigitalDivideNetwork reports on a post by Taran Ramprasad about an Italian telephone company advertisement where Gandhi is depicted.

Taran Rampersad posted a note to the digitaldivide list yesterday with a link to an award-winning commercial from Italy. It features Mahatma Gandhi giving a speech from a village hut in India. The twist is that the commercial envisions a world in which modern ICTs like the Internet and webcasting exist in the 1940s, and that the digital divide has been bridged. See it for yourself. It's incredibly moving -- and it makes me wonder if the next Mahatma is somewhere in a small village somewhere in India or Cambodia or Mozambique, waiting for access to the ICT tools that many of us take for granted, so the world may hear her voice.... -ac

TIVO Goes Open Source With Project Tahiti

CNet News has an article about TIVO going opensource:

Digital-video recorder company TiVo announced Monday the release of a software development kit that lets third-party application makers add new features to TiVo's DVR service.

The move is part of a larger strategy, code-named Tahiti, to let DVRs download information and content from the Internet that wasn't possible to download before.

The company expects to release three applications with the kit. One will display on a television weather information gathered from a broadband-connected PC. Other applications include an RSS reader and a game. A home network and broadband connection are needed to take full advantage of the applications.

The Java-based kit will be available on SourceForge.net.

Seems like Rajesh Jains predection that every home is going to have a information utility box is going to come true soon.

U.S Going Fundamentalistic

The New York Times reports that in US schools Evolution Takes a Back Seat in Classes.

Dr. John Frandsen write that when she talked to a teacher from Alabama:

"She confided that she simply ignored evolution because she knew she'd get in trouble with the principal if word got about that she was teaching it," he recalled. "She told me other teachers were doing the same thing."

Dr. Franderson also reports:

"The most common remark I've heard from teachers was that the chapter on evolution was assigned as reading but that virtually no discussion in class was taken,"

There is no credible scientific challenge to the idea that all living things evolved from common ancestors, that evolution on earth has been going on for billions of years and that evolution can be and has been tested and confirmed by the methods of science. But in a 2001 survey, the National Science Foundation found that only 53 percent of Americans agreed with the statement "human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals."

And this was good news to the foundation. It was the first time one of its regular surveys showed a majority of Americans had accepted the idea. According to the foundation report, polls consistently show that a plurality of Americans believe that God created humans in their present form about 10,000 years ago, and about two-thirds believe that this belief should be taught along with evolution in public schools.

Weird isn't it, probably this is the reason why I encounter some people who don't know anything about evolution.
