Google Philanthropy in India ???

I saw this article Google: Doing Good in India in Business Week:

The search engine is helping to overcome the scourge of blindness in India, and its philanthropy may presage a growing business presence.

The Aravind Eye Hospital performs 240,000 eye surgeries a year, making it the largest hospital of its kind in the world. Management guru C.K. Prahalad hailed it as a "gem at the bottom of the pyramid" in one of his management books. Brilliant, who joined Google in February, 2006, is a patron of the hospital and is also a close friend of Aravind's founder, Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy.

Well, I don't know if I have to applaud the efforts of Google philanthropy division or just wonder why they don’t invest all those millions and billions in promoting education. I totally understand that Government of India must be responsible for providing proper education and education policies. Today India has become the back office of the world and increasingly becoming a destination of worlds research, is mainly due to the availability of few millions of highly educated Indians. There are still hundreds of millions of Indians who don’t have access to proper primary education, let alone quality education. What if these Googles of the world plough their philanthropy millions in promoting quality primary education? The education landscape will start transforming rapidly and may be tens of millions of Indians will become more productive and resourceful to the world.

Google think about it........., you may be instrumental in building Literacy Everywhere World.

Well said ram, myself working in the field of primary education feel that there is lots to be done in the field of primary education.

Sometimes wonder why depend on Google and other companies to support us in Giving a good primary education in india. Why cant NRI's come together and help , if they pool their resources together and contribute a little to indian education system, lot could be improved.....

Hi,

We run a B2B-B2G e-Marketplace on our proprietary software. It has an e-Sourcing, e-Procurement, e-Selling Engine embedded on it based on Bidding System. It is the first stage of our work. Later Auction, Reverse Auction and other features could be added.

The Portal and e-Marketplace focusses on the Defence Industry & Uniformed Community.

It is listed on the EU's Official website as one of the nine credible defence e-Marketplaces ; out of these six are from the US, two from Europe and this one outside USA and Europe. We have India focus with global orientation.

Our Company, www.svipja.com, is listed amongst 11 ICT Consulting Cos. fromIndia on the US Dept of Commerce's portal.

We need VC funding to commercialise our portal, and grow beyond our present stage.
We wish to go direct to VCs bye-passing Angel Investors , if need be.

Request support.

Regards,

Brigadier Sukhwindar Singh (Retired)

Do you have any Braille Books to donate to a blind student for college? Unfortunately a lot of private colleges can't accommodate Blind students. Would appreciate hearing from someone. This student that is blind has 148 I.Q. and is a straight A student in every area of study in high school.

Sweet CVS Client

I have come acrosss this sweet CVS client Tortoise CVS. The best part is that this tool seamlessly integrates with windows explorer and its a free sourceforge download. I also think that the tortoise is really cute.

Things that Entrepreneurs must do

Rhonda Abrams writes in Citizen Times:

1. Talk to an attorney and/or accountant.

2. Objectively check out the competition.

3. Get a domain name and/or e-mail address.

4. Get all necessary business licenses, permits and certifications.

5. Contact an industry trade association.

6. Get a business bank account and set aside one credit card just for business use.

7. Develop at least a simple budget.

8. Get bookkeeping software.

9. Develop a business plan.

10. Develop a marketing plan and go to it!

Very comprehensive. IMO Getting a domain name should come 'after' a business plan has been developed.
